Subscription Service Overview
Picture it: you get sides for an audition for the day after tomorrow. You can just manage to find an hour to learn the lines, make some acting choices and practice the scene - but it's in an accent that isn't native to you. At this point, many actors post a desperate message on Facebook asking if any friends on the other side of the world can record some lines for them ASAP - sometimes this works, sometimes not. Other actors scour the internet for samples of people speaking in the accent, and then try to figure out how to adapt it to the sides they have to learn. Still others look up every word they have to say in a dictionary to see how they are spelled in the International Phonetic Alphabet, only to realize they don't quite remember all of the IPA symbols. And then there are those who "wing it," hoping their charm will distract the casting director from their less than stellar accent. Why waste all that time? There's a much better option: sign up for My Accent Guy's subscription service, and next time you get those sides, your process will go something like this:
Step One: EmAIL My accent guy
Send an email to email@example.com from the email you used to subscribe to the service and provide the following information:
a photo of the sides
the accent required
the date and time of the audition
the casting director
any information about the project you have, such as period
any information about the character you are reading for, such as ethnic background and social class.
Step Two: I'll do the work
Once I have received your email, I will get straight to work researching all the information you will need to perform in the accent, recording the lines myself, and sourcing a native speaker to record them as well, if possible (time constraints and obscurity of the accent sometimes mean it will not be possible to source a native speaker).
Step Three: Work on your sides
While I'm busy working on your audition, you work on the sides. Within 24-48 hours, you will have a recording of the sides (several, where applicable), pronunciation tips, phonetic information, and suggestions for whom to emulate. You'll also be able to send me a recording of the lines for a critique and further tips.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OCCASIONAL USER AND A HIGH VOLUME USER?
An occasional user averages one audition per month for which they need to use my services; a high volume user is anyone who averages more than once a month.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A THE STANDARD SERVICE AND THE PREMIUM SERVICE?
There are four main differences: (1) premium subscribers get a guaranteed turn-around time of 24 hours rather than 48 (except that cannot always include a native speaker recording); (2) premium subscribers have the convenience of working with me via WhatsApp recordings; (3) premium subscribers can call me in an emergency, up to 11pm at night Sunday-Friday; (4) premium subscribers can seek my help for on-the-job related emergencies that are similar in size to audition material or very basic, such as the pronunciation of a word in a particular dialect, or the correct pronunciation of a foreign word or phrase.
CAN I UPGRADE FROM OCCASIONAL TO HIGH VOLUME AND FROM STANDARD TO PREMIUM AT ANY TIME?
